In 2017 the UWC organization launched the UWC Refugee Initiative to provide scholarships for 100 additional refugee students each year to attend one of the United World Colleges.
"In light of the dramatic escalation in the number of young displaced people fleeing conflict, persecution or environmental disaster, combined with the need for future post-conflict leadership, there is an urgent need to further increase the number of refugee students being granted access to a world-class school education at a UWC school."
- UWC International Organization
UWC alumni in NYC have joined the cause by committing to sponsor one of those scholarships through ongoing fundraising, while also building community and having fun. To date, we've hosted benefit concerts, trivia nights, dinner parties, and more.

United World Dinners
UWC alumni frequently host "United World Dinners" - a chance for UWC and non-UWC friends to get together and have a great time while raising money for the refugee initiative. Hosts make a classy meal and guests donate to the refugee initiative what they might have paid for going out to eat at a restaurant (or more! ;) ). Anyone can come, just sign up for the dinner you want to attend on the events page.
If you want to host a dinner, email us at uwcnyc@gmail.com. UWC NYC will provide support all along the way, from sending invitations to tips for organizing to providing a cheese and cracker appetizer.
Let's bring the world together with the easiest thing to share - great food and great conversation.
