UWC NY Holiday Party 2023

While it may start at 6:00 on a Saturday, this is no mere SSS: at 8 years running, the Holiday Party is UWC NYC at its finest. 

Join us for the highly anticipated tradition at Beatrice Sibbiles's (Pearson College) beautiful brownstone in Harlem. 

This year, the dinner will be catered by Sambuxa NYC owned by the wonderful Gladys Shahtou who plied us with mouthwatering Sudanese food at our Udub Dinner for Sudan in October. 

Proceeds from ticket sales minus costs will go to the UWC Sudan National Committee. Due to the onset of civil war in April, the committee has an urgent need to cover additional costs for students that are beyond their scholarships, such as flight tickets and unforeseen travel expenses. At our Udub Dinner for Sudan we raised $2,750 for UWC Sudan, help us add $2K more to help current UWC students!

The tickets are pay-what-you-wish with a minimum of $40 so we can cover the cost of food and drinks for you. If you're a student or on a limited income, feel free to get the $20 ticket instead, and if even that is a big financial burden on you, just send us an email. UWCers and friends from all walks of life are very welcome!

Also, following up his UWC Day presentation, Carlos Beltran, Emmy nominated journalist and UWCer at heart, will be with us with a limited # of copies of his incredible, 10-years in the making, art book “It Suddenly Occurred To Me.”  A collaboration combining Yadira Silva’s texts with his photography from Caracas, Venezuela, the book is an astounding labor of love and a poignant representation of the social realities of Venezuela through the lens of Yadira’s personal story. Proceeds from the book will go to UWC Venezuela and to Yadira. 

On the menu:

• Sambuxas: Halal beef, feta cheese and dill, veggie
• Agashe: Sudanese Chicken skewers coated in peanuts and spices
• Ful: Fav bean stew with pita
• Aswad Salad: Eggplant peanut butter salad with pita bread
• Dakwa Salad: Scallion, tomato, feta cheese salad with peanut dressing, served with Pita bread.

We'll also have Baobab juice, Hibiscus juice and alcoholic drinks
