About The Event
Dance, Edita, Dance! makes its English-language world premiere this December as part of the Factory Series at The Chain Theatre. Produced by Sondra Litvaitytė (UWC Adriatic ’00), a founding member of the New York Baltic Film Festival, and directed by Rūta Mėta Pauliukaitytė, this Off-Off-Broadway production is adapted from the critically acclaimed work of award-winning Lithuanian author Rimantas Kmita.
Set in Šiauliai, a city in northern Lithuania, this Baltic coming-of-age story unfolds as a dynamic quasi-monologue that fuses rhythm and movement with the backdrop of a 1990s post-Soviet cityscape. It captures the nostalgia of Hollywood and American pop-culture fantasies of the era. At its core, the play explores themes of love, youth, identity, and the restless energy of its 17-year-old protagonist, Edita, as she pursues her Western VHS dreams.
