August Hike to Mount Beacon

We'll take the Metro-North Railroad to hike up Mount Beacon  and visit the town of Beacon  in the Hudson Valley. We'll hike 2 miles up to the summit of South Beacon Mountain where the famous Beacon Fire Tower is located (4 miles total). We will have lunch at the summit and then come down to the town and get a beer. It can get hot in the summer, so don't forget to bring water!

When? Where?

We  meet at Grand Central next to the central booth at 9.25am with our tickets ready (download TrainTime, the easy, official app to buy your tickets). 

We will take 9.50am train (8815) to Poughkeepsie, arriving to  Beacon at 11.26am. Be there on time, the next train is an hour later! 

In  Beacon we take the free bus that takes us to the trail head. We should  summit at 2.30pm, have lunch and be back at the trail head by 4.30pm. We  will then go a visit the Hudson Valley Brewery. We plan to take the train back  at 5.09pm, but there's a train every hour to New York City.

What to bring: 

1) Lunch, snacks 

2) Water (LOTS OF IT)

3) Hat, baseball cap

4) Sunglasses, sunscreen

5) Sturdy shoes/Hiking boots

6) Rain Jacket(if necessary)
