Our Lady of the Clouds

The Mechanicals, a New York City-based theatre company, as part of its Tenth Anniversary Festival, presents two riveting one-acts this December: Our Lady of the Clouds, a poetic journey of exile and memory, and Séance, a Gothic horror world premiere set in 1850s New York. We’re delighted to highlight the first of the special double bill, Our Lady of the Clouds - a haunting performance that toggles magical realism and absurdist aesthetics. The one-act follows two exiles reckoning with their traumatic past after fleeing an authoritarian regime in their homeland. Dubbed as ethereal, the play evokes themes of collective memory, pain, censorship, displacement and reconciliation. This performance reimagines the lived experiences of artists and intellectuals during the Argentinian military dictatorship—a pivotal chapter in Latin American political history—through a surreal, contemporary lens.
